The nature of the Internet is such that these leads times can change abruptly. Yahoo! ( http://www.yahoo.com ): Yahoo! is the granddaddy of search engine/indexes. A prominient listing in Yahoo! can spell sucess overnight. The majority of sites achieving listing in Yahoo! will find indexing to be between four and eight weeks. EZStart Tip: Yahoo! utilizes AltaVista for searches that are not manually indexed so registering in AltaVista can get you in the door for Yahoo!
Infoseek ( http://www.infoseek.com ): Unpredictable. Sometimes instantaneous, other times indexing in days or more. At times, not accepting submissions and other times, accepting but not actually indexing them. Infoseek introduced a search technology they term, "Extra Search Precision" (E.S.P.), developed to give better results when searching for common topics involving one or two words. With E.S.P., you get more of what you expect when searching the World Wide Web. E.S.P. is designed to anticipate your needs and provide the context necessary to deliver the services and information that will be most useful to you. E.S.P. content is supplied by Infoseek's editorial staff. Northern Light ( http://www.northernlight.com ): Indexing still between two to three weeks. AltaVista ( http://www.altavista.digital.com ): They are still drastically limiting the number of daily submissions to only a few per day. Indexing remains between one and three days. AltaVista began displaying a new user interface recently. Expected to simplify the navigational experience for all levels of Web expertise, the change is touted to "search for information faster and easier." They have further added "Zones" or specific content areas to simplify the access of information about entertainment, finance, health, and travel with the click of a mouse. Searches can be streamlined by selecting subject, personal or business search directory capabilities. Read about the changes at: their web site. HotBot ( http://www.hotbot.com ): Indexing between one and three days. HotBot changed their submission process recently, now requiring an email address with each submission. They have also changed the look of their home page. Excite ( http://www.excite.com ): Indexing between three and four weeks. Excite Search now augments its classic Web results with general company or product information, current news articles and links to top sites from Excite's directory. The new results page also includes a selection of relevant, hyperlinked results from Excite's directory of top sites on the Web and a list of URLs utilizing Excite's powerful search engine technology and taken from a regularly updated index of more than 50 million Web pages. Lycos ( http://www.lycos.com ): Indexing time now between three and four weeks. Lycos' search engine technology has been incorporated into certain AOL services in Europe. The AOL Europe services are marketed and supported by AOL Bertelsmann Online Europa GmbH, a joint venture between America Online and Bertelsmann AG. Within the first few weeks of testing, AOL NetFind had more than 50 Million page views by users inside and outside of the respective AOL services. Each day, more than 200,000 of the over one million users of AOL's Internet online services in different European countries such as Germany, France and the United Kingdom search the Internet with AOL NetFind.
