What is today, Carolina Sound Services, was originally founded in 1986 by Dave Knode. He became aware of a need in his community to provide quality sound and lighting reinforcement for events in a recently constructed 750 seat venue. Due to lack of experience on the part of the facility owner, there were insufficient equipment and qualified personnel on site. Dave took that as an opportunity to provide services to the various groups utilizing the facility. With his background and formal training in technical theatre, he was able to quickly meet those needs and continues to do so today.

As time progressed, more and more opportunities presented themselves. Carolina Sound Services was ready to meet those challenges. Today, Dave can be found behind the scenes of many high profile events up and down the east coast. Events ranging from recitals to Broadway scale musical theatre, from outdoor festivals to high profile corporate events, Carolina Sound Services is the production company of choice for many of the event planners and producers in the Carolinas. If you have been to many events in the Charlotte, NC area you have probably seen or heard Dave’s work.

In the late 90's Carolina Sound Services began to expand into other realms of production support. Now we are often called in specifically for our lighting and video expertise.

In the past few years we have had the opportunity to support several regional broadcast clients with full production support. Including consulting & training, producing, shooting & post production. As well as multimedia and DVD authoring.

Carolina Sound Services is often called upon to supplement other local production companies on a sub-contract basis. When there is no margin for error, local production companies turn to CSS.

Because of the uniqueness of some services that CSS provides, coupled with the personal attention that Dave Knode is driven to give each event, bookings are often made a year in advance of the event date.
